The Toronto Blue Jays announced some pretty big news yesterday as they DFA'd starting pitcher Jose Urena.
The Blue Jays have DFA'd starting pitcher Jose Urena
The Blue Jays have been unable to find a reliable replacement for Scherzer and many thought that
Urena could be an serious option when they signed him earlier this month.
Surprisingly the Blue Jays announced yesterday that they decided to call up pitcher Easton Lucas and consequently DFA'd Urena to make room on their roster for Lucas.
ROSTER MOVES:
We've recalled LHP Easton Lucas from Triple-A and he will be active for today's game
RHP José Urena has been designated for assignment
The move comes as a bit of a surprise since Urena had solid numbers in his time in Toronto as he had a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched with 5 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP.
However bringing in Lucas was clearly a smart move as he was on the mound for Toronto yesterday and put up an incredible performance with 0 earned runs, 4 hits and 3 strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.
Easton Lucas was key today:
4.2 IP
0 ER
4 Hits
1 BB
3 Ks

The Blue Jays will likely be able to trade
Urena in the coming days due to his solid performance during his short stint in Toronto.
