The Toronto Blue Jays are adamant on building a World Series team this offseason, and they realistically need one more big name to do it, one of those names is https://www.mlb.com/player/alex-bregman-608324, and only three other teams are pursuing him; the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Toronto Blue Jays have a real shot at Alex Bregman.
Matt Sullivan of Sporting News reported on the ongoing free agent saga this winter. The Blue Jays have been by far the busiest team picking up Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers and Chase Lee to bolster their pitching. But now it's time to focus on the other side of the game.
"This report suggests that the Blue Jays are in the Bregman market, with the Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Red Sox as the top competition for the three-time All-Star. Of these three teams, and four including the Tigers, only the Red Sox pose the biggest threat for Bregman from Toronto's perspective."-Sullivan
Bregman would fit nicely in the infield at second base, with Addison Barger at third and Angel Gimenez at shortstop. The Blue Jays biggest reluctance to re-sign Bichette has been due to his defensive weaknesses, if they can find someone who is almost as good at the plate as Bichette but way better defensively they will take him, and Bregman could be that guy.
"He might not be the Blue Jays' top option, as they're also pursuing Tucker, Bichette, and potentially even Cody Bellinger. With interest in Brendan Donovan and Ketel Marte, the Blue Jays might also choose to trade for a new infielder."-Sullivan
The Blue Jays have their foot in a lot of camps right now, it seems like if they aren't careful they might lose out on every option available. It might be wise to have more focus on fewer targets, and make sure you can acquire them, then the strategy they are deploying now.
