The Toronto Blue Jays are in need of adding a starting pitcher to their rotation prior to the trade deadline and there are rumors that they might be after Athletics pitcher Luis Severino.

The Blue Jays have been rumored to be interested in few pitchers as the deadline approaches including Arizona Diamondbacks veteran Merrill Kelly who will likely be dealt at the deadline.

The Athletics might look to trade Luis Severino to the Blue Jays at the deadline

According to reports, the Athletics might look to trade Severino who they signed in the off-season to a large deal but since he has been under performing and they are nowhere near a playoff spot, they will likely look to trade him.
The Blue Jays are in the market for a starting pitcher which is why that Severino could be a great addition because despite his 4.83 ERA this season, he has put up great numbers when playing on the road.
The first is Luis Severino, who is ranked No. 22. The reason he'd be intriguing for the Blue Jays is that despite having a 4.83 ERA, his numbers away from West Sacramento have been pretty good. -Burke

The one problem that could arise for the Blue Jays when it comes to Severino's contract, he signed a two year plus one option last off-season worth $67 million which would be a little much for Toronto with the numbers he is putting up.
The reason this trade may not work is the contract that Severino is signed to. Back in December, the A's inked him for two years plus a player option year for a total of $67 million across three seasons. The veteran righty has been outspoken about playing in Sacramento, and this could be a way to recoup some value for the club. In order to move him, the A's would likely have to eat a bit of the deal, however. -Burke

If the Blue Jays can find a way for the Athletics to retain a certain portion of his salary, this trade could end up making a lot of sense.
At the same time, the risk for Toronto is that there is a lot of solid pitchers available this year with less of a downside which is why Severino should be considered a back up option.
