The last injury update on Santander stated that he had yet to begin swinging a bat but that he was starting to feel better and was approaching returning to swinging a bat.
Blue Jays announce that Anthony Santander has began his recovery
Santander has been out of the lineup since early June when he went down with shoulder inflammation and the recovery has taken much longer than expected as he was placed on 60 day IL in July.
News: Anthony Santander has started his «hitting progression», which means that he's finally started the early stages of swinging a bat, hitting off a tee, etc.
#BlueJays are keeping the door open to him returning and the next couple of weeks should tell us if that's possible.
While this a massive step in the right direction, his program to rehab his arm will at least take a few more weeks before the team knows if he will be able to return to the lineup this season.
Anthony Santander has resumed swinging from both sides of the plate. He'll work through a hitting progression next (dry swings, flips, tee work, live pitching etc.). That would likely take a few weeks, at least. If all goes well a rehab stint would follow.
The Blue Jays have actually been playing a lot better since Santander went down with his injury but if they could get him back before the end of the season in top shape and playing better than he did at the start of the season, it would make a big difference.
In 2025, Santander struggled immensely before his injury as he had 6 homeruns and 18 RBIs in 50 games with a .179 batting average and .273 on base percentage.
