The Kyle Tucker saga continues with the Toronto Blue Jays, reports are saying they are all in on signing him with Ross Atkins being directly involved, but can they sign him and retain Bo Bichette?
The Blue Jays have the potential to perform a double signing that would turn the MLB on its head.
Can the Blue Jays pull off Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette?
Kristie Ackert of Sporting News reported on the possibility for the Blue Jays to acquire Tucker, and how it would affect the Bichette situation but according to former MLB GM Jim Bowden the Blue Jays want Tucker bad.
"They're in on Tucker - boy, they are in. Both Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins are directly involved, the kind of top-level engagement that usually signals a real shot at closing."-Bowden
The Blue Jays should be in on Tucker, he's head and shoulders the best free agent available, and Bichette is probably behind him in the second slot.
There is a possibility they can keep both, but Tucker might be too good to pass up if they cannot manage the double signing.
Additionally, there is a chance that if they end up signing Tucker, they might not be able to put together a competitive offer to Bichette forcing him to go elsewhere.
"Across 2025 with the Cubs, the 28-year-old hit .266 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs and 25 steals, posting an .841 OPS and a 4.6 WAR season, the latest entry in a career that now sits at .273/.358/.507 with 147 homers. He continues to grade as one of the better outfield bats in the game in quality-of-contact metrics and overall offensive value, per Baseball Savant and FanGraphs. "-Ackert
The financial piece is real but manageable. Toronto's projected 2026 payroll sits around $193 million, placing them in the upper tier of MLB. The Blue Jays can try to retain Bichette, or bet on Tucker, or attempt the kind of generational play that would define this era of club history and sign both. However they choose, they'll be doing it in the toughest division in baseball where the Yankees and Orioles are also in need of Tucker's services.
