Toronto Blue Jays Jose Berrios recognized as nominee for big MLB award
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Jose Berrios is up for a prestigious MLB award as he is now a nominee for the Roberto Clemente award.
Last season, Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez was the winner of the MLB's Roberto Clement award.
Jose Berrios nominated for the Roberto Clemente award
The MLB gives the Roberto Clemente award each year to the player that shows extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions on and off the field.
The Blue Jays announced this afternoon that Berrios is a nominee for the 2025 Roberto Clemente award for his work off the field in both Puerto Rico and Canada.

During a recent interview, Berrios stated that he tries to give back as much as he can because he remembers of being a kid and the chance he was given with baseball which he wants to give to others.
«It reminds me of when I was young, growing up and dreaming of being where I am right now. Right now, I am living my dream,» Berrios said. «I want to give that chance and that opportunity to the young kids to be around us, to be around their role models, idols, whatever they want to call it. It's a great opportunity for me. I'm not here because I am José Berrios. I am here because God let me be here. I have to take advantage of that and be grateful.» -Berrios
Berrios also spoke on how prestigious this award is because of what Clemente meant to the game of baseball both on and off field.
«Every young player knows about Roberto Clemente. My dad played baseball, my brother plays baseball, so I always heard about Roberto Clemente and what he did, not just on the field but off the field. He is a role model. He is our inspiration, not only for Puerto Ricans but for Latin players. Knowing what he did and knowing that we have the opportunity to do the same or better than him is a great opportunity.» -Berrios
While Berrios has been struggling on the field this season, he has not let it affect his character off the field as he continues to give back.
