This is the missing piece of the puzzle staring us in the face: a 49-homer beast who thrives in the clutch and destroys baseballs when it matters most.

Ross Atkins needs to stop window shopping and make a serious offer to Eugenio Surez.
After seeing Bo Bichette leave for Queens, the Blue Jays lineup feels dangerously unbalanced.
We have plenty of contact, but we need raw, intimidating power from the right side to protect Vladdy.
Eugenio Surez fits that description perfectly.
Suarez (Signed as International Free Agent in 2008 by Detroit) just came off a monster 2025 season where he blasted 49 home runs and drove in 118 RBIs split between Arizona and Seattle.
His postseason heroics were legendary-an opposite-field grand slam in ALCS Game 5 that nearly carried the Mariners to the World Series.
He is 34 years old, which scares some teams off, but his durability is elite; he has played 150+ games in almost every full season since 2016.
The market for his services is narrowing, with the Red Sox and Pirates circling, but neither team offers the immediate contender status Toronto does.
Here is the contract offer that gets it done:
Two years, $34 million, with a vesting option for a third year based on plate appearances.

Power wins in the AL East

This deal is aggressive on AAV ($17M/year) but safe on term, minimizing the risk of his age-36 season.
It beats the projected offers floating around ($15M AAV) and tells him we are serious about winning now.
Surez would instantly slot into the cleanup spot or fifth hole, forcing pitchers to throw strikes to Vladdy.
Imagine a lineup with Guerrero Jr., Surez, and Springer-that is a gauntlet no pitcher wants to face in October.
Defensively, he is not a Gold Glover anymore, but his bat more than makes up for it, and he can rotate through DH to keep fresh.
He brings a veteran "good vibes only" clubhouse presence that this team sometimes desperately lacks.
It's time to add some "Geno" swagger to the 6ix.
The window is open, but it won't stay open forever. Go get him, Ross.
