The Toronto Blue Jays are looking at every possible option when it comes to adding a left handed pitcher and a reunion with Anthony Kay seems to be a possibility.
The Blue Jays have been linked to a few of their former players over the last few weeks such as pitcher Derek Law who is currently a free agent.

The Blue Jays are in need of left handed pitchers to add to their bullpen and starting rotation as the bulk of their pitchers are currently all right handed.
According to reports, the Blue Jays could look at a reunion with Kay who is looking to return to the MLB after spending the last two years in the Nippon Professional Baseball.
Kay actually put up great numbers overseas as he finished with a 1.74 ERA last season and in 2024 put up a solid 3.42 ERA in which he ended up winning the Japanese championship.
The other notable pitcher that fits this category, Anthony Kay, is a former Blue Jay and is perhaps the best fit of them all as a left-handed pitching starter. Kay spent the past two seasons with NPB's Yokohama BayStars, winning the Japan Series with the team in 2024. In 2024, he had a 3.42 ERA and 2.84 FIP in 136.2 innings pitched, with a 20.2 K% and 9 BB%. Kay's numbers improved quite a lot in 2025, finishing the year with a 1.74 ERA and 2.55 FIP in 155 innings pitched, along with a 21.5 K% and 6.8 BB%.
The main issue is that Kay will be looking to sign a major league deal as a starting pitcher which is a bit of a risk for the moment since he was not pitched in the MLB since 2023.
The move that would make the most sense for a reunion between Kay and the Blue Jays would be to sign him to a minor league deal as a bullpen pitcher but it looks like he is searching for a starting role.
Kay's chances of landing a starting role despite doing well in Japan as a starter are very slim which is why a reunion with Toronto is possible but only if he is willing to take a bullpen job.
