Scherzer's last start went even worse against the Kansas City Royals as he did not even make it out of the first inning in a disaster of a loss.

Max Scherzer speaks on his brutal start

The Blue Jays blew a massive game yesterday as they lost to the Red Sox 7-1 as Scherzer had another very rough outing 10 hits and 4 earned runs in 5 innings pitched.
After the game, Scherzer told reporters that things can change overnight and that is part of the game but he stated that he needs to keep focus and remember who he is.
Max Scherzer:

«Baseball can flip in a heartbeat. Things can change overnight for no apparent reason. And so, when you look yourself in the mirror, you have to just know who you are»
The first inning was once again the toughest part of the outing for Scherzer as he looked like he might not make it out once again as his ERA in the first inning this season now sits at 12.967.
Max Scherzer has a 12.96 ERA in the 1st inning this season.

That's the 4th highest 1st-inning ERA over the past 50 MLB seasons among pitchers that made 15+ starts
Scherzer has made 17 starts this season with 85 innings pitched and is currently having the worst season of his career with a 5.19 ERA on the year as he struggled to start and is once again struggling at the worst possible time.
Max Scherzer has made what could be his final start as a Blue Jay. Let's take a look at his season totals:

- 17 Starts
- 85.0 IP
- 5.19 ERA
- 1.29 WHIP
- 82 K
- .262 Opponent BA
- .810 Opponent OPS

The highs were high, but unfortunately the lows were even lower
It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays end up keeping him in the rotation for the playoffs.
