The Toronto Blue Jays are looking at all of their options when it comes to their starting rotation and with veteran Max Scherzer leaving and they might have found his replacement.

Blue Jays might have found Max Scherzer's replacement in Framber Valdez

The Blue Jays currently have some big shoes to fill in their starting rotation especially when it comes to Scherzer who will likely be leaving in free agency.
Scherzer was great for the Blue Jays especially in the playoffs where he finished with a 3.77 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched and 11 strike outs.
Astros pitcher Framber Valdez is coming off a bit of a down year in 2025 but still finished with a 3.66 ERA to go along with a 13-11 record in 192 innings pitched and 187 strike outs which is why he could be an incredible addition to the Blue Jays rotation.
In response, USA Today Sports insider Bob Nightengale predicted that the Blue Jays will end up signing Houston Astros All-Star Framber Valdez. -McAvoy

The Blue Jays are looking to improve their starting rotation in 2026 in hopes of returning to the World Series and Valdez would be the perfect fit for this.
Adding a player of Valdez' caliber will not come cheap but if the Blue Jays plan on landing big time players, they will need to be willing to spend money and up their payroll.
If the Blue Jays could get that type of guy, there's no reason to believe they couldn't make another deep run in 2026. A deal surely would be expensive, but Toronto has proven over the last few years that it isn't afraid to pursue the top names in free agency. -McAvoy

While Valdez is not a lock, it would certainly be a great move for the Blue Jays moving forward.
