The Miami Marlins announced some big news on Christmas Eve as they have signed Pete Fairbanks who has been one of the Toronto Blue Jays main targets.
The Blue Jays have been linked to Fairbanks for quite some time as many believed they were looking at him to replace Jeff Hoffman as the team's closer but it looks like that won't be happening.
Marlins sign Pete Fairbanks to a one year deal
The Marlins announced early this afternoon that they have reached an agreement with Fairbanks on a one year deal worth $13 million after turning down a $11 million option with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Reliever Pete Fairbanks and the Miami Marlins are in agreement on a one-year, $13 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Fairbanks, 32, had an $11 million option turned down by Tampa Bay and went onto the open market and beat it by $2 million.

If the Blue Jays are serious about going after another reliever, they are starting to run out of options after this signing as the top reliever still available le is their former pitcher Seranthony Dominguez.
Early Merry Christmas to the Marlins, signing Pete Fairbanks -- the top remaining RP available -- to a 1-year deal.

This deal between the Marlins and Fairbanks certainly puts the Blue Jays in a tough position as they might be forced to stick with Hoffman as their closer.
