The Toronto Blue Jays were one of the busiest teams this past offseason in attempt to to make their team better but several mistakes have caught up to them as they close in on the 40 game mark.

The team had a dreadful 78 win season which was one of the worst in team history and last seasons of additions were expected to help the Blue Jays win more games and compete in the American League East.

Blue Jays organization inability to add one or two power bats

The Blue Jays were in several talks with prominent hitters last winter including Juan Soto, Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso who all would have given the Blue Jays a major power boost in there hitting and their overall offense.
None of these players materialized and the Blue Jays ended up signing Anthony Santander who was a member of the Baltimore Orioles last year.
Known as a slow starter when it comes to offence, Santander has lived up to that notion as his numbers have been dreadful early on in this season.
«The offense has to get better," general manager Ross Atkins told reporters. "We've worked tirelessly over the last year and a half to correct that. We do believe in the adjustments we've made and do believe that good things are coming, but we can't rest on that,» - Ross Atkins

The Blue Jays also made the attempt to acquire a true third basemen which would have fell on the feet of Alex Bregman.
Bregman leads baseball with a 1.009 OPS and a 2.0 bWAR, so it's not hard to imagine the kind of impact he could have made on the lineup. While he would have been expensive (he signed a three-year, $120 million deal with Boston), Bregman is the kind of player the Blue Jays need to be in the market for every year. Matthew Sookram

Lack of depth pitching costing the Blue Jays early

In the early weeks it appeared the Blue Jays had solved their issue with depth pitching as their veteran rotation had been giving excellent work in great numbers which helped the reliever's immensely.
This good feeling began to wobble and buckle as the Blue Jays pitching depth has been tested with the loss of Max Scherzer's thumb injury and the crumbling of Easton Lucas game after two great starts which led to two horrendous ones that sent him back to Buffalo to find his game.
Those two losses resulted with the relief pitchers struggling and the starting rotation beginning to sag with their starts.
This led to general manager Ross Atkins to sign over the weekend to veteran pitchers in Spencer Turnbull and Jose Arena.
It remains to be seen on whether these changes will help the Blue Jays but in the meantime the team will need to prepare as they head back out on the road for a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.
