Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman has been having a tremendously weird season as he started off on fire but has since been struggling like crazy.
Blue Jays pitcher Jeff Hoffman is in trouble as he continues to disappoint
The Blue Jays brought in Hoffman to be their main closer this season after they let Jordan Romano go and at the start of the season the moved looked great but since then Hoffman has cooled off quite a bit.
Jeff Hoffman this season for the Blue Jays:
10 G | 11.1 IP | 6 H | 2 ER | 1 BB | 16 K | 5 SV | 1.59 ERA | 0.62 WHIP
As Hoffman continues to struggle, other relief pitchers has been stepping up in a major way such as Brendon Little who in the month of May appeared in 12 games with a 0.00 ERA to go along with a 3-0 record.
In May, Little was as good as a reliever can be. He appeared in 12 games and had a 0.00 ERA (he gave up two unearned runs). He went 3-0, had four holds, pitched 13.1 innings and struck out 16 hitters against seven walks for a 10.8 K/9. He also allowed only six hits and finished with a 0.98 WHIP. -Postins
Hoffman has been slightly better over the last few games but even then still sits with an ERA of 9.64 in his last 15 games and has a 5.81 ERA on the season right now which is far from what the Blue Jays expected.
If Hoffman continues to fall down like this, there is a good chance that the Blue Jays look to move him because they have pitcher such as Brendon Little and Yariel Rodriguez who has been way more reliable.
This has been by far Hoffman's worst season since 2021 when he finished with a 4.56 ERA with the Cincinnati Reds but since then he had an ERA below 4.00 until this season.
Hopefully Hoffman can find a way to return to the pitcher he was but it certainly does not look good as of right now.
