Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer opens up about why he chose Toronto
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer spoke of why he decided to sign in Toronto and it looks like a big portion of it has to do with his family.
The Blue Jays agreed to a one year deal with Scherzer during the off-season worth $15.5 million as they were looking to improve their starting rotation and wanted to bring in some experience to help the younger pitchers.
Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer speaks on why he decided to sign in Toronto
During a recent interview, Scherzer spoke on how there was a few factors that led him to signing with the Blue Jays this off-season.
The first was that he was mainly looking at teams on the East coast since his family is in Jupiter and he wants to be able to spend as much time as possible with his kids during the season.
«Had some conversations with teams across the league, especially on the East Coast. My family being there at Jupiter. You know, really kind of wanted to stay on the East Coast. Really helps me see my kids more [chuckles]. -Scherzer
Scherzer also added that when he met with the Blue Jays he wanted to know which direction they were headed in since he is now 40 years old and want to go to a team that is looking to win.
The Blue Jays confirmed to Scherzer that they are looking to go all-in and anything short of a World Series would be a disappointment which is what Scherzer was looking to hear.
«So, when having conversations the way the market shook out, Toronto became a really good fit for me, had some conversations with the front office and wanted to really know, like, all right, what's the direction of the team? How do you view 2025?They came back, and said, 'Hey, we're in an all-in position. We're going for it.' So, it was kind of music to my ears,» -Scherzer
So far in Spring Training Scherzer has looked great on the mound despite some people being worried that his past injuries would affect him but it does not seem to be a problem at all as of right now.
