The player the Toronto Blue Jays acquired from the Seattle Mariners in the Justin Turner trade has been quietly excelling since joining the organization and is starting to deserve more recognition.
The player is none other than RJ Schreck, a power-hitting corner outfielder with a disciplined approach at the plate, originally selected by the Mariners in the ninth round of the 2023 draft.
Blue Jays prospect is crushing it in the minor league.
Damon from Blue Jays Nation reports that
Schreck has maintained a career walk rate of around 13.5% in the minors, well above league average, highlighting his disciplined approach at the plate. His patience is further underscored by the fact that he's only swung at 40.4% of the pitches he's faced so far in 2025.
"After joining the Blue Jays organization post-trade deadline last season, Schreck slashed .255/.377/.521, good for a 153 wRC+. His 14.0% walk rate was in the 95th percentile for double-A, and his strikeout rate was firmly in check, sitting at a modest 23.7%." -Damon
So far in 2025, Schreck has gotten even better. He is currently slashing .270/.386/.549 with a .935 OPS, tallying nine home runs, 18 RBI's, four stolen bases, and an impressive 171 wRC+. Schreck leads the Eastern League in OPS (.935), with teammate Yohendrick Pinango, another trade deadline acquisition from last summer, right on his heels at .931.
RJ Schreck blasted his ninth homer of the season in New Hampshire's 4-0 win in the second game of their doubleheader.
Arjun Nimmala and Schreck are tied for the most home runs in the Blue Jays system this season
For Schreck, the message is clear: just keep doing what he's doing. His combination of power and plate discipline is exactly what the Blue Jays need, especially given their current lack of both. His call-up feels inevitable; it's just a matter of finding a way to make room for him on the roster.
