The Blue Jays continue to spend their international bonus pool money that they agreed during the Myles Straw trade with the Cleveland Guardians last season with their latest signing.
Toronto has agreed to a deal with Alieski Torres with a $200,000 signing bonus, an 18 year old right handed pitcher from Cuba who has been in the Dominican Republic since 2024 at Chiqui Mejias' academy.
Torres seem to be a great pitcher for his age as he has a fastball that sits between 90-94 MPH with a chance of developing a slider and chageup in the near future.
Cuban RHP Alieski Torres (18) has officially signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. Bonus deal: $200,000.
He left Cuba in 2024 and progressed at Chiqui Mejias' academy in Bonao, Dominican Republic.
His fastball sits 90-94 mph, with a chance to develop his slider and changeup.
The Blue Jays have been seen as one of the teams with the worst prospect pools in baseball which is why GM Ross Atkins has made it a focus to acquire some great young talent over the last couple of years.
While fans are hoping to see some bigger signings made hopefully involving Bo Bichette or Kyle Tucker, these smaller signings are also very important for the team's future.
