The Toronto Blue Jays were recently linked to Los Angeles Angels pitcher Ryan Johnson in a 3-player trade proposal.

The Blue Jays have mostly added pitchers this off-season but they are still in need of some help in the bullpen which is why they have been linked to multiple free agents and trades.

Toronto Blue Jays could look to trade for Ryan Johnson

Johnson made his MLB debut in 2025 for the Angels, playing in a total of 14 games which did not go as planned as he finished with a 7.36 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched.
However, Johnson was outstanding in the minors as he put up a 1.88 ERA in 57.1 innings pitched across 12 games last season to go along with a 4-3 record and 65 strikeouts.
In a recent report, it was suggested that the Blue Jays trade Jose Berrios and Joey Loperfido in exchange for Johnson since it would suit both team's needs.

This move would not only work for the Blue Jays but would also be a solid option for the Angels who have already added a few solid former Blue Jays pitchers and could benefit from adding Jose Berrios to the rotation.
"The Angels are assembling the Avengers of former Blue Jays: Alek Manoah, Yusei Kikuchi, Jordan Romano. Why not add Berrios to the rotation, absorb the entire contract, and add an intriguing young outfielder in Loperfido?" -Jordan Leandre

This trade for Johnson would be a solid move from the Blue Jays bullpen next season but since he is only 22 years old and has seen a lot of playing time as a starting pitcher in the minor, it could be a great addition for their starting rotation down the road.
As the Blue Jays continue to look for options to move Berrios, this trade with the Angels could make a lot of sense.
