The Toronto Blue Jays are lucky to have two former Cy Young pitchers this season in their rotation, unfortunately for Mac Scherzer , it remains unlikely that he will re-sign with the club when he becomes a free agent this offseason.

Scherzer's price tag was recently announced and expected to be around $10 million next season and it looks like that is too steep for the Blue Jays.

Scherzer's time in Toronto is dwindling down.

Peter Chawaga of Newsweek recently spoke about the unlikelihood of the Toronto Blue Jays keeping Max Scherzer next season.
They simply won't have the payroll space to bring him on once again plus after how this season has gone for him in terms of injuries, it simply does not make sense for the Blue Jays.
"Despite the consistent performance, injuries still remain one of (Scherzer's) main Achilles heels in recent years as he managed only 19 starts in 2023 and just nine starts in 2024 due to various ailments," Eng wrote. "As a result, with Scherzer and his injury risk, as much as the Jays fans appreciate what he has done for the team this season, they will likely be aiming for a consistent, healthy, dominant arm to be part of the rotation with Shane Bieber being the prime candidate to fulfill that role going forward."-Chawaga/Eng

The Blue Jays also a ton of players to sign this off-season and Scherzer is not at the top of that list or on it at all at this point.
"The team has several pending free agents, even after locking in franchise star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a $500 million extension. Key players, including Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt and Seranthony Dominguez, all have the chance to become free agents at the end of the year.-Chawaga

Max Scherzer has had quite the career, and will go down as one of the best pitchers of all time.
He might still have value to provide for a club, especially if he can remain healthy but for the Blue Jays it seems his tenure here will end following this season.
