The Toronto Blue Jays announced yesterday that Anthony Santander's season has come to an end and the truth behind his injury has finally been revealed.

The Blue Jays announced yesterday that the MLB approved their request to remove Santander from their ALCS roster and replace him with outfielder Joey Loperfido.

Santander's teammate Kevin Gausman spoke on the situation yesterday, stating that Santander really battled to get back in the lineup for the playoffs but that his injury has just hit the point where he can no longer play through it.
«We'd obviously love to have [Santander] in there, but it's part of the game and part of this point of the season,» said Game 5 starter Kevin Gausman. «He's really battled back to even get here. It's next guy up. [The Mariners] aren't going to feel bad that he's not in there. They'll probably be pretty happy, to be honest.» -Gausman

According to reports, Santander's injury is a lumbar spine inflammation which seems to be causing him enough pain that it has put an end to his season.
«We'd obviously love to have [Santander] in there, but it's part of the game and part of this point of the season,» said Game 5 starter Kevin Gausman. «He's really battled back to even get here. It's next guy up. [The Mariners] aren't going to feel bad that he's not in there. They'll probably be pretty happy, to be honest.»
Santander 's first season in Toronto has been quite the disaster due to injuries as he has missed the majority of the season with back and shoulder problems.
Hopefully the off-season will help Santander heal properly and he will be ready for the start of Spring Training but he seems to have a lot to work on before that date.
This is a tough spot for the Blue Jays since they just lost one of their sluggers two wins away from the World Series but the team has done great most of the year without him and this should not stop them from achieving their goal.
