While there was rumors of the Blue Jays being interested in Cease, not many saw this big of a deal coming between the two this early into the off-season.

There has been a lot of mixed opinions about the signing as some believe that the Blue Jays might have overpaid.
Jomboy Media's Chris Rose spoke on the signing stating that it is certainly a decent signing but argued that it was a bit of a overpay and added that he can be very inconsistent.

New York Yankees fans on the other hand are apparently not too worried about the signing since Cease has a career 5.34 ERA against the Yankees and 6.04 ERA against the Boston Red Sox.
«(Dylan Cease) has a career 6.04 ERA against the Red Sox and 5.34 ERA against the Yankees.»
While some doubt the signing, the Blue Jays clearly were able to land quite the ace as Cease has the most strikeouts since 2021 among all qualified starting pitchers with 1106 and sits in 4th in fWAR with a 20.6.
Dylan Cease ranks amongst all qualified SP's since the beginning of the 2021 season:

IP: 884 (7th)
Strikeouts: 1106 (1st)
fWAR: 20.6 (4th)
K%: 29.7% (12th)
K-BB%: 20.0% (20th)
Average FB velo: 96.7 (8th)
+WPA: 64.10 (10th)

Simply one of the best starters in baseball.
The Blue Jays and Ross Atkins seem very serious about returning to the World Series next season.
