A new type of bat known as the torpedo bat has arrived in the Blue Jays clubhouse and has sparked much debate amongst players, management and coaches on whether these bats are an advantage.

The debate began after the New York Yankees had introduced this bat to Major League Baseball when their offence hit nine home runs on Saturday afternoon all from this new piece of equipment.

Bat deemed legal and players looking to see if it helps with offense

"Everybody's trying to find a leg up and an advantage," said Blue Jays third baseman Ernie Clement. "The game's hard enough, so it makes sense that guys are trying different things. But it's still hard as hell to hit a baseball." Ernie Clement
There seems to be a lot of confusion about the Yankees new torpedo-style bats, but they are perfectly legal. MLB bats must be made from one piece of solid wood, be no more than 2.61 inches in diameter at their thickest part, and not exceed 42 inches in length.

Blue Jays outfielder Davis Schneider has decided to order his own torpedo bat as his curiosity has got the best of him and wanted to try out this new bat. Manager John Schneider thinks but the Yankees outburst and offence is the only reason why this bat is even being discussed.
"All of the above," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. "It's so new, you don't really know. I think if the Yankees didn't hit 15 homers, we wouldn't be talking about it."

Curiosity has many Blue Jays wanting to try this bat

Some players like Blue Jays Alan Roden things that innovation within the game of baseball is no different than any other sport but it's still quite interesting to see the outcome.
"It's a pretty cool idea, just in terms of the theoretical part of 'how can we optimize the bat,'" said Alan Roden, who majored in physics before beginning his pro baseball career. "But I think there's a lot to explore with the give and take. What you're getting and what you're giving away. It's interesting."
If the bat helps the offence whether it's the Blue Jays or any other team in Major League Baseball, it's likely this bat will be part of the equipment going forward.
Much like the carbon fiber hockey stick that many NHL players have adopted from the old wooden stick, this torpedo bat could be the next best thing for baseball players going forward.
The Blue Jays are currently in the middle of their series against the Washington Nationals with the Blue Jays has won Game two by score of 5-3 and have gone 4-2 record so far in this young season.
