MLB all-star Pete Alonso let the New York Mets know that he will be opting out of his current contract and there is a chance that he lands with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays were rumored to be going after Alonso last off-season but ultimately lost out on him as he ended up staying with the New York Mets.

Blue Jays have a chance at landing Pete Alonso this off-season

While the Blue Jays' main focus is the playoffs right now, the front office is certainly also looking ahead to next season as they want to build off the great year they had in 2025.
After the Mets missed the playoffs this season,Alonso stated that his main goal going into next season is winning a World Series which is why he is expected to turn down his player option.
«I think the biggest thing is, I want to win,» Alonso said. «I know we didn't this year, but we had the right pieces I think, we just didn't do it. At the beginning of the year, you just want to have the best possible chance to hold up the trophy at the end and see yourself being a champion. So for me, it's why I do this. I want to be on top of the mountain. I want to win a World Series. That's the ultimate goal.» -Alonso

If the Blue Jays continue to perform and end up going deep this year with a real chance of winning the World Series, this will certainly boost their free agency stock for the off-season.
Toronto has had trouble in the last few years trying to lure free agents but with how successful they were this season, they should not have that same problem this winter.
Adding Alonso' bat to the Blue Jays already solid offense could be massive for next season but the big question would be surrounding where they would place him on defense.
With a player of Alonso's caliber, if they are able to land him, the Blue Jays will find a way to make it work.
