Chad Green has officially retired. The former Blue Jays reliever confirmed he called it quits in early April.

“I officially just called it quits in April, early April,” Green told Randy Olson of AreaSports.net.

He'd kept throwing after being designated for assignment last year, waiting to see if the right offer came along. “But nothing really materialized,” he said.

The 35-year-old walks away after 10 MLB seasons with the Yankees and Blue Jays.

His Toronto story started long before he arrived. The Jays drafted him out of high school in the 37th round in 2010, but he chose to play at the University of Louisville instead.

Detroit took him in the 11th round in 2013 and traded him to the Yankees after the 2015 season. He debuted in New York in 2016 and stayed through 2022.

Chad Green's 2024 season was his best in a Blue Jays uniform

Toronto finally landed him after 2022 with a two-year, $8.5 million deal. He was coming back from Tommy John surgery and made just 12 appearances in 2023.

The 2024 season was the payoff. He posted a 3.21 ERA over 53.1 innings.

Then 2025 slipped away. His ERA climbed to 5.56 over 43.2 innings, and he didn't pitch in the playoffs during Toronto's World Series run.

How should Jays fans remember him? As a solid bullpen arm who gave them one very good season.

Over 10 seasons, he posted a 3.43 ERA with 591 strikeouts. He also made 19 postseason appearances.

That's a career worth celebrating. A 37th-round high school pick who pitched a decade in the majors and earned more than $31 million, per Spotrac, beat some very long odds.

His career was a road trip full of detours. The scenic route still got him somewhere most players never reach.

He's out of the game now, and Toronto's bullpen has moved on with Louis Varland and Tyler Rogers. But the team that drafted him first finally got to see what he could do, even if it took 13 years.
