Ross Atkins speaks on the Blue Jays plan for Shane Bieber
After the trade deadline yesterday, Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins spoke on the team's plan for Shane Bieber moving forward as he is still not ready to return to the MLB just yet.
Atkins stated that the team is very happy to have gotten Bieber and that he will soon be making a rehab start which the team will then assess him and take it one inning at a time.
Ross Atkins says the #BlueJays are «fired up» to be in this position and he's very happy to add a pitcher who has been «elite» in Shane Bieber.
Bieber will make another rehab start and they'll take it one outing at a time from there.
Bieber and Atkins are supposed to meet in Toronto today face to face to go over the plan regarding his return while also meeting for the first time which they have never done.
Atkins on Bieber:
«When I called Shane, he said, 'Hey, how's it going? Nice to meet you.' Small talk. Then he said 'I was thinking about taking a boat over,' because he's in Cleveland.»
Will report back on Bieber's actual mode of transit to Toronto tomorrow #BlueJays
Since Bieber has already made a few starts in the Guardians minor league system, there is a good chance that he could be in the Blue Jays starting rotation before the end of the month.
