Josh Kasevich's bat has gotten loud enough in Buffalo that the Toronto Blue Jays may not be able to ignore it much longer.
Through 100 games with the Triple-A Bisons this season, Kasevich is slashing .298/.383/.395 with four home runs and 41 RBIs.
Since the end of June alone, he's been hitting .400, with three of his four home runs coming in that stretch.
His last 20 games have been even more absurd, a .449/.538/.654 line with a 1.192 OPS, three homers and 10 extra-base hits, all while walking at a 12.9 percent clip against just an 8.6 percent strikeout rate.
That combination of power surge and elite plate discipline is exactly the profile that gets a prospect real big league consideration, especially paired with a strong spring training that already had scouts talking.
Kasevich, ranked MLB Pipeline's 14th-best prospect in Toronto's system, has spent the season bouncing around the infield, seeing time at shortstop, second and third base.
Why Guerrero's health could open the clearest path
If Vladimir Guerrero Jr. needs any real time off, Kazuma Okamoto could slide over to first base, opening third for a genuine extended look at Kasevich.
September call-ups could also give him a shot if Toronto wants to rest Andres Gimenez or Ernie Clement down the stretch, a normal late-season strategy for evaluating younger talent.
That path has gotten a bit murkier since the trade deadline, though. Toronto's acquisition of Josh Smith from Texas adds another infield option, and Luis Urias's own health status complicates the picture further.
Any call-up would also require adding Kasevich to the 40-man roster, a real roster crunch decision this front office would need to navigate deliberately.
It's a bit like an understudy who's clearly ready for the stage, just waiting on the right sequence of events to actually get the call.
Given everything he's done in Buffalo, it's worth finding out what the 2022 draftee can actually do at the highest level before this season ends.
Should the Blue Jays call up Josh Kasevich before the season ends?
