The Toronto Blue Jays have some important decisions to make soon, they need to resupply their starting pitching rotation and they need to re-sign Bo Bichette, if Bichette doesn't work out they will have a lot of money to spend on an ace, and that could be Framber Valdez of the Houston Astros.

The Blue Jays would then have Valdez, Shane Bieber and Kevin Gausman as their top 3, which would be one of the better trios in baseball.

Valdez heavily linked to Blue Jays during free agency.

Zach Pressnell of Newsweek reported on the Valdez sweepstakes, stating that the Blue Jays are the favorites to land him if they do not re-sign Bichette. Bichette is expected to sign for over $200M which would take up too much space to sign Valdez.
"Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball recently predicted the Blue Jays would sign Houston Astros ace Framber Valdez to a five-year, $160 million deal in free agency this winter."-Pressnell

The Blue Jays do not have much of a choice in adding a starting pitcher this winter. If they do sign Bichette they'll have to find a less exppensive option than Valdez, but it does beg the question of who would benefit the Blue Jays the most? They already have a solid hitting core, and Bichette isn't that effective as a shortstop.
""There was a stretch this past season where the Astros won 13 consecutive games started by Valdez. One of the best groundball pitchers in baseball, Valdez is an innings-eater who is invaluable for the regular season, who also has plenty of experience pitching well in October," Finkelstein wrote. "Considering the run the Blue Jays just went on, they should be looking at every possible way to add to their roster."-Pressnell

Pitching was ultimately the difference between the Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. Not that the Blue Jays pitching was poor, just that the Dodgers were exceptional. Therefore maybe the Blue Jays should prioritize the mound this winter, even if that means letting Bichette walk.

Should the Toronto Blue Jays prioritize pitching over Bo Bichette?
