Then, to make room on their 40 man roster for Heyman, Seattle decided to part ways with Saucedo as he was designated for assignment.
TRADE: The Mariners have acquired right-hander Alex Hoppe from the Red Sox in exchange for Minor League catcher Luke Heyman.
And to clear a 40-man roster spot for Hoppe, left-hander Tayler Saucedo has been designated for assignment.
Saucedo was drafted by the
Blue Jays back in the 21st round of the 2015 MLB draft and was in Toronto until 2022 when he was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets.
In his first season in Toronto, Saucedo actually put up decent numbers as he finished with a 4.56 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched but the following year did not go as well as he had a 13.50 ERA in 2.2 innings before being placed on waivers.
After a tough year in Seattle where he finished with a 7.43 ERA, the team decided to DFA him and unless he is claimed off waivers, he will likely end up a free agent by next week.
