Former Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull has decided to part ways with the Kansas City Royals and enter free agency.
The MLB free agency always take a bit longer to get going than other major sports leagues as no big name has signed a new deal yet despite the market being officially opened for almost a week.
Spencer Turnbull decides to leave the Royals and enter free agency
After just four appearances in an Omaha Storm Chasers uniform, Turnbull elected free agency, according to his official roster page. The transaction occurred on Thursday, though it took a couple of extra days to show up on the log. -Roberts
Turnbull was a big signing for the Blue Jays last May but after failing to deliver in the minors and majors, Toronto ended up releasing him which is when he signed with the Chicago Cubs.
The
Blue Jays ended up having Turnbull appear in 3 games this past season in which he pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 12 hits and only getting 4 strike outs which resulted in a 7.11 ERA.
For the Blue Jays at the major league level, Turnbull let up 12 hits and five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings. The 33-year-old had a rough year on just about every possible front. -Roberts
During his time in Chicago, Turnbull spent it entirely in the minors and was unable to have any success which is how he landed with the Royals but things did not go better there.
In Omaha, Turnbull finished with a 6.38 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched and 17 strike outs to go along with an 0-2 record.
The veteran pitcher will now look to try and find himself a new deal this winter but it will certainly be hard to find a major league deal with the numbers he put up since returning from surgery.
