Another former Blue Jay has found a new home, proving once again that if you can frame a pitch, you can stay in this league forever.

Reese McGuire is back in the NL Central.
The former Blue Jays catcher has signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers, which includes an invite to Spring Training.

It’s a low-risk depth move for Milwaukee, but for Jays fans, it’s a blast from the past.
McGuire (Drafted 1st Round, 2013 by Pittsburgh) is now 30 years old (turning 31 in March) and continues to grind out a career based on his glove work.
He spent the 2025 season with the Chicago Cubs, hitting .226 with 9 home runs in 44 games.
Those aren't eye-popping numbers, but they don't need to be.
His value has always been behind the dish.
During his time in Toronto (2018-2021), he was the classic "defense-first" backup who could occasionally run into a fastball.
Now, he joins a Brewers team that needs insurance behind superstar William Contreras.
With Milwaukee’s top catching prospect Jeferson Quero likely needing more time in Triple-A, McGuire has a legitimate shot to break camp as the backup.

The art of the journeyman catcher

There is something respectable about a guy like McGuire.
He was a first-round pick with high expectations, and while he never became an All-Star, he has carved out an eight-year career by being reliable.
He catches clean games, blocks balls in the dirt, and knows how to handle a pitching staff.
That skill set is currency in MLB.
Jays fans will always remember his brief flashes of power and his role in the 2020 and 2021 teams.
Now, he tries to help the Brewers stay atop the NL Central.
Good luck, Reese. Just don't beat us.
