The New York Mets announced their coaching staff heading into the 2026 season and former Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia has found himself a new position.

There has been a few former Blue Jays moving around in the MLB coaching world as former Jays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier just stated online that he is looking for a new position in which he would work with all 30 MLB teams.

Mets promote J.P. Arencibia to catching coach

The Mets announced a few updates to their coaching staff last night which saw Arencibia promoted from Triple-A bench coach to the Mets catching coach for the 2026 season.
The Mets promoted J.P. Arencibia (3A bench coach to catching coach), Dan McKinney (AA pitching coach to assistant pitching coach) and Gilbert Gomez (Cyclones manager to 1B coach) to major-league staff.
Arencibia was part of a few coaches that were promoted within the organization from minor league positions to the MLB along with Dan McKinney and Gilbert Gomez.
After enjoying a few years off, Arencibia was hired by the Mets in 2023 as a bench coach for the Mets Triple-A affiliate team, the Syracuse Mets.
The Blue Jays drafted Arencibia in the first round of the 2007 draft and he went on to play in Toronto for 4 years, between 2010 to 2013 then he ended up singing with the Texas Rangers for the 2014 season.
Arencibia's best season in the MLB came with the Blue Jays back in 2011 when he hit 23 home runs and 78 RBIs to go along with a .219 batting average and .282 on base percentage.
This is a solid move by the Mets as Arenciabia clearly has some great MLB experience and could certainly help their catchers take the next step in 2026.
