Phillies sign Genesis Cabrera to minor league deal
The Phillies announced earlier this morning that they have agreed to a one year deal on a minor league contract with Cabrera for the 2026 season.
The minor league deal will also include a major league Spring Training invitation which will give Cabrera a chance at cracking the Phillies Opening Day roster and bullpen.
According to my sources, left-handed pitcher Génesis Cabrera signed a one-year minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, with an invitation to Spring Training. #Phillies #GenesisCabrera
Cabrera had a rough season in 2025 as he played in a total of 40 MLB games but it was split between the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins.
In 40 games last season, Cabrera finished with a 6.54 ERA in 42.2 innings pitched and a 0-1 record to go along with 35 strikeouts.
Ever since Cabrera decided to leave Toronto and elect free agency at the end of the 2024 season, things have no been going his way.
His last solid season in the MLB came with the Blue Jays in 2024 when he finished with a 3.59 ERA in 62.2 innings pitched across 69 games with a 3-3 record and 50 strikeouts.
Hopefully Cabrera will be able to find himself a permanent spot in the Phillies bullpen which could actually happen since they have multiple relievers that left this off-season including former Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano.
