Keegan Matheson links the Toronto Blue Jays to Cy Young winning pitcher ahead of the trade deadline
The Toronto Blue Jays are clearly very interested in a starting pitcher and according to MLB insider Keegan Matheson, they might go after Jacob deGrom from the Texas Rangers.
Ever since Ross Atkins mentioned during a press conference that they will be looking into pitchers at the trade deadline, the Blue Jays have been linked to a ton of pitcher such as Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller.
Blue Jays could be interested in Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom according to Keegan Matheson
During an appearance on TSN's OverDrive, Matheson stated that he believe the Blue Jays will likely go after either Kansas City Royals Seth Lugo or Rangers former Cy Young winner, Jacob deGrom.
According to Matheson, since the Blue Jays have quite a few pitchers on expiring deals between this year and next, going after a pitcher like deGrom could be huge since he is locked down until the end of 2027.
«If you are talking about starting pitchers, yeah, it's fun to talk about guys like (Mitch) Keller who could help out the rotation,» Matheson said.
«But, you should also be talking about Lugo and Jacob DeGrom, guys who can start Game 1, 2, or 3 of a postseason series. The bullpen is going to be a part of this, but I do think a big addition to the rotation would really take this team to the next level.

deGrom could be a great fit for Toronto as he is one of the most dominant pitchers of the last decade and with the numbers he is putting up this season, it is clear that he still has a lot of fuel in the tank.
«They need to find the next guy to be there alongside Berrios, alongside Trey Yesavage. They've got money, they've got tons of money. If there is a small market team that is looking to unload a guy and his money, the Blue Jays should be all over that.» -Matheson
So far this season, deGrom has a 9-2 record with a 2.32 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched with 113 strikeouts on a very average Rangers team.
This could be a serious game changer if they could land a pitcher like deGrom for the second half of the season.
