Kevin Gausman made a quick, nostalgic trip back to Toronto on Monday, and it had nothing to do with baseball.

He and wife Taylor used a day off in the Cubs' schedule to head north and revisit their former home.

Taylor shared several photos from the getaway on her Instagram Stories, including a shot of the CN Tower, an embrace with Kevin, and dinner at Akira Back.

The high-end Japanese-Korean restaurant sits inside the Bisha Hotel on Blue Jay Way, named for its Michelin-starred chef.

The couple ordered several dishes, including the restaurant's signature Tuna Pizza, a tortilla crust topped with thinly sliced bigeye tuna, umami aioli, and Maldon sea salt.

The trip was brief by necessity. Gausman is scheduled to start for the Cubs Tuesday night at home against the Marlins.

Why the timing lands so differently for each club

Chicago sits in strong position for October, four games up on the Diamondbacks with six games to play, tied with the Padres at 87-69 and a game ahead of the Phillies.

It would take a genuine surprise for the Cubs to miss the playoffs from here.

Toronto's situation is the exact opposite. A loss to the Orioles Tuesday, paired with a White Sox win, would officially eliminate the Blue Jays from postseason contention.

That contrast makes Gausman's brief visit feel almost symbolic, a former ace returning to a city on the verge of missing October while his new team closes in on a playoff spot.

Gausman's own transition to Chicago has been uneven both on the field and off it since the trade, still finding his footing in his new surroundings.

Whatever happens Tuesday night for both teams, this quiet, personal trip back to Toronto says plenty about how much the city still means to the Gausman family, regardless of which uniform he's wearing now.
