The Toronto Blue Jays were so close to a World Series win against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but as a result they're walking tall heading into free agency, which could give them the opportunity to land free agent Kyle Schwarber and steal him from the Philadelphia Phillies.
Christopher Hennessy of Clutch Points reported on the potential for Schwarber to end up in Canada with the Blue Jays. The newfound prestige of the Blue Jays, more and more players are gravitated toward playing up north, even if they are NL MVP runner-ups.
"Schwarber hit 56 homers and knocked in 132 runs for the Philadelphia Phillies, both of which led the National League. Those totals landed him a distant second in the NL MVP race, but it was a perfect season to ride into free agency. With the Phillies needing a jolt, they could let Schwarber walk and make some trades in a busy offseason. That should lead to a big contract offer from the Blue Jays."-Hennessy
Schwarber is now a free agent after rejecting the Phillies qualifying offer and has been attracting attention for a bunch of team's after the season he just had in Philadelphia.
"This deal would pay Schwarber $28 million per year through his age-36 season. It is a comparable deal to the one they gave Springer to get him to Toronto in the first place. That was a six-year deal that paid the then-31-year-old $24.167 million through his age-36 season. "-Hennessy
The Blue Jays are playing in a new league now, one that includes the Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox. They have the money, the fan base, and are starting to have the winning pedigree to attract the top stars of the sport.
