The New York Yankees announced that they have signed agreed to a deal with former Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Michael Arias.

Free agency has been rolling out quite a few days over the past couple of days as even the Blue Jays closed another one this morning as they signed Tanner Andrews.

Yankees sign Michael Arias to a minor league deal

The Yankees announced this morning that they have agreed to a minor league deal with Arias but have yet to announce if the deal includes a major league Spring Training invitation.

The Yankees have re-signed recently non-tendered RHP Michael Arias to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Welcome back, Michael!

Arias signed as a free agent shortstop with the Blue Jays back in 2018 where he would bounce around their minor league system until 2020 when he was released by the team.

After signing a new deal with the Chicago Cubs, Arias would end up transitioning to becoming a pitcher during the 2023 season.

Last year, Arias put up some solid numbers as he played in 4 different minor league levels and finished with a 2.73 ERA in 29.2 innings pitched and a 3-0 record across all leagues.

While Arias did not seem to have a chance of making it to the MLB as a shortstop, his numbers as a pitcher have certainly been impressive and now his dream could finally end up happening this season.

This seems to be a solid signing for the Yankees who had Arias last season and after electing free agency last week, they decided to sign him to a new deal to bring him back in hopes of him continuing to improve at his new position.
