Former Blue Jays pitcher Genesis Cabrera DFA'd by the Pirates
The Pirates announced back in late June that they signed Cabrera to a a major league deal and despite putting up decent numbers they team has decided to cut ties with him.
Cabrera was DFA'd this morning to make room on the Pirates roster for Johan Oviedo according to Pittsburgh's manager Don Kelly.
Pirates manager Don Kelly said LHP Genesis Cabrera will be DFA to make room on the active roster for RHP Johan Oviedo, who returns from a rehab assignment to make his first start since September 2023 after missing last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
So far this season Cabrera has played for the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates in which all three teams designated him for assignment.
In Chicago Cabrera had an extremely tough time with a 8.68 ERA but with the Mets he had a 3.52 ERA and in Pittsburgh he had a 4.91 ERA which is why he should be able to land himself another deal.
