Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Shane Bieber had a player option for next season and he finally announced his decision this evening.
Many expected Bieber to decline his player option and enter free agency this winter since he is in line for a big payday after proving himself this season.

Most fans expected Bieber to decline his player option this off-season as he would be able to land a larger contract in free agency but it looks like he felt otherwise.
Bieber just announced that he has accepted his $16 million player option and will be returning to Toronto for the 2026 season.

Bieber would have certainly been able to get more than $16 million per year on the open market but it looks like he wants another shot at the World Series with the Blue Jays.
Toronto now has at least one spot in their starting rotation locked down from players potentially leaving as they look to fill in a few more spots in the coming weeks or months.
It will be interesting to see how Bieber does in a full season in Toronto since he only came in at the trade deadline in 2025 and pitched very few games since he was coming back from Tommy John surgery.
