Shane Bieber contract extension update announced
The Toronto Blue Jays have a few big players that could be leaving this off-season one of them being starting pitcher Shane Bieber who has a player option for 2026.
The Blue Jays lineup is loaded with talent this season but unfortunately some of those players are on expiring deals such as Bo Bichette who is expected to sign for around $300 million according to Jeff Passan.
Jeff Passan states Shane Bieber will likely leave Toronto this off-season
Passan recently released a report of the biggest name expected to hit free agency this off-season in which he spoke of a few Blue Jays players such as Bieber and Bichette.
According to Passan, he believes that Bieber will turn down his $16 million player option this off-season and enter free agency as he will likely be able to land a big contract with how he has been pitching since returning from his injury.
"Being traded to Toronto allowed Bieber a hall pass from the qualifying offer, which is enough to take his $4 million buyout and turn down a $16 million option -- provided he remains healthy for the rest of the season.
Will he opt out: Yes." -Passan

Bieber has been better than advertised since returning to the mound for Toronto as he has become their ace putting up incredible performances apart from last game against the Reds where he had one rough inning but battled and still pitched a total of 6 innings.
On the season, Bieber has a 4.15 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched while striking out 21 batters to go along with a 2-1 record in 3 games but his ERA only went up due to his last outing.
If Bieber ends up opting out of his player option, the Blue Jays still have a chance of keeping him but it will certainly be harder since they will have to compete with other teams.
