Blue Jays sign former Diamondbacks all-star pitcher Joe Mantiply
News broke yesterday that the Blue Jays have signed former Diamondback all-star relief pitcher Joe Mantiply to a minor league contract and has assigned him to FCL Blue Jays.
Mantiply had a horrible start to the season in Arizona as he gave up 17 runs in 9.2 innings pitched for a 15.83 ERA which led to him being released by the Diamondbacks.
The #BlueJays have signed left-handed reliever Joe Mantiply to a minor-league contract and he is headed to the FCL, according to the transaction log.
An All-Star with the Diamondbacks in 2022, he was released earlier this season after allowing 17 runs in 9.2 MLB innings.
While
Mantiply was horrible this season and has not pitched since May 13th, this is still a relief pitcher who had a 3.92 ERA last season and a 2.85 ERA in 2022 when he was voted an all-star.
The Blue Jays clearly sent him to the Florida Complex League to let him slowly start to ramp up since he has not pitched in an MLB game since May but he will likely end up getting a shot with the Blue Jays a little further down the line.
This could be a very interesting move for Toronto since if they can find a way to get Mantiply's game back, this would be a complete steal right before the trade deadline.
Hopefully the Blue Jays can find a way to get Mantiply back on track as having a all-star relief pitcher in their bullpen with all the injuries they currently have will be a huge help.
