The Toronto Blue Jays just announced an injury update on Shane Bieber who they just acquired from the Cleveland Guardians and is still recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The Blue Jays completed a trade for Bieber which pretty much no one saw coming as he has not been a name mentioned at the top of the trade list since he has been recovering from his surgery and has yet to play this season.
Blue Jays announce injury update on Shane Bieber and possible return date
After only 12 innings pitched last season, Bieber was placed on IL as he needed Tommy John surgery and has not pitched since but it looks like he recovery process is picking up.
Bieber pitched 4 innings in Double-A with the Akron Rubber Ducks in which he struck out 7 batters and gave up only 3 hits and 1 earned run with no walks.
Bieber threw 57 pitches over four sharp innings on Tuesday in his latest rehab start. He's been pleased with his velocity.
Guardians had been receiving a bunch of calls on him, even though he's made four starts in the last 24 months. He's likely to decline $16M option for '26.
While there are some concerns since Bieber is coming back from surgery just like Alek Manoah, his numbers in his rehab assignments have looked great.
As Bieber continues to ramp up, the Blue Jays will likely be able to get him back in the lineup in the next couple of weeks if he continues to progress properly meaning they will have him for about a month and a half before the playoffs.
