The Toronto Blue Jays announced this morning that they have signed a new starting pitcher as they agree to a deal with Grif Hughes.
The Blue Jays starting rotation has been one of their biggest issues this season as they cannot find any consistency and have been battling injuries all year long but unfortunately this signing will not help.

The Blue Jays announced that they agreed to a minor league deal with Hughes this morning and have already sent the 23 year old to the Florida Complex Blue Jays.

While the Blue Jays definitely need to sign a starting pitcher, clearly this move will not be making any difference for them since they need a pitcher that can jump into the rotation right now and not in a few years.
Hughes played college baseball at Carson-Newman University where he finished with a rough 5.48 ERA in 63 games games, making 11 starts for them in that time.

The 23 year old pitcher was most recently playing independent baseball for the Evansville Otters where he put together a 3.07 ERA in 44 appearances this season coming out of the bullpen.
Following graduation, Hughes took his talents to independent ball, signing with the Evansville Otters in the Frontier League. He would make 36 appearences for the Otters out of their bullpen, allowing just 15 earned runs through 44 innings of work to the tune of a 3.07 ERA and a 1.136 WHIP. -Shushkewich
Since Hughes has been a starting pitcher and relief pitcher throughout his career, it is still unclear where the Blue Jays will decide to place him.
