Blue Jays total deferred on Dylan Cease's contract
After the Blue Jays signing was announce, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal was the first to report that a portion of the contract would be deferred which would affect his annual salary and bring it down from $30 million per season.
Deal includes deferrals, source says. Amount not yet known.
Reports then came out that the deferred money would now bring Cease's annual salary down to $26 million meaning that there would be $4 million per season that is deferred.
The deferrals are expected to reduce the present value AAV of the deal to around 26 million per year, per source.
Still the largest pitching contract in #BlueJays history
The $4 million per season being deferred by the Blue Jays would amount to a total of $28 million of his $210 million contract.
When looking at the deferred amount, it looks like the contract would end up being 7 years at a total of $182 million that would be hitting the Blue Jays books.
This is great for the Blue Jays as it allows them to use that money elsewhere this off-season as they continue to try and improve their roster for the 2026 season.
There are still a ton of great free agents available for the Blue jays to spend this extra money on.
