Blue Jays sign Buddy Kennedy to a minor league deal
The Dodgers announced last week that they decided to DFA Kennedy to make room on their roster for Kike Hernandez and he was released a few days ago after clearing waivers.
Los Angeles Dodgers INF Buddy Kennedy cleared outright waivers and elected free agency.
The Blue Jays then announced late last night that they have decided to bring Kennedy back on a minor league deal as he will be headed to Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons.
The Blue Jays have signed 1B Buddy Kennedy to a minor league deal.
Kennedy has not gotten a lot of MLB exposure so far this season as he has seen 13 games across 3 teams with his longest stint being with the Dodgers were he saw 7 games and 17 at bats but only record one hit.
However, this signing is clearly a great depth move as Kennedy has been very solid in Triple-A this season with 8 homeruns and 45 RBIs in 77 games so far this season between two teams.
The Blue Jays will likely hold off on calling Kennedy up for the remainder of the season unless they run into injury trouble with their infielders.
This is another solid depth signing by the Blue Jays who recently acquired Eloy Jimenez, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ryan Borucki who was just called up to the MLB.
As the playoffs approach, all these small additions will make a big difference if injury problems continue to arise.
