Toronto Blue Jays acquire Houston Astros two time all-star pitcher in unexpected proposal
The Toronto Blue Jays are focusing on finishing the season strong and getting ready for the playoffs but rumors are already coming up regarding their off-season acquisitions which could involve Houston Astros all-star pitcher.
The Blue Jays improved their starting rotation quite a bit when they acquired Shane Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians at the trade deadline but that does not mean it cannot still be improved.
Proposal for the off-season has the Blue Jays signing Framber Valdez
In a recent report, MLB insider Mark Feinsand stated that the Blue Jays could end up being a landing spot for Houston Astros pitcherFramber Valdez who is set to be one of the top free agents available this winter.
"There are some high-end starting pitchers on the market this winter, but none with the same track record as Valdez, who has a 3.16 ERA over 148 games since becoming a full-time starter in 2020," -Feinsand
Feinsand stated that Valdez should be able to land a decent contract due to his two time all-star selection, he listed the Blue Jays along with the Astros and Baltimore Orioles as potential landing spots.
"A two-time All-MLB Team selection, the lefty should land a high AAV (average annual value) to lead someone's rotation, though his age makes the length of the deal a bit less certain. ... Potential fits: Astros, Blue Jays, Orioles." -Feinsand
While the Blue Jays currently has 6 starting pitchers on their roster with Bowden Francis and Alek Manoah both still recovering from injury if they move on from those two plus Chris Bassitt and Jose Berrios, they will need to find some replacement options.
Valdez is having another solid season with the Astros as he currently has a 3.32 ERA in 157.1 innings pitched this season with a 11-7 record and 153 strikeouts which shows how consistent he has been this year which could be huge for Toronto.
The Blue Jays main focus right now is the playoffs but once the off-season hits they will have some serious big decisions to make with multiple players on expired contract.
While Toronto has struggled to land big time free agents lately, landing Valdez should not be too difficult if they offer him a solid deal.
