Toronto Blue Jays opened the international signing period by landing right handed pitcher Sahir De La Cruz and two others on Thursday.

This is the quiet kind of offseason move that matters in three years, not three weeks. De La Cruz joins Abrahan Diaz and Fayon Dumorne as new right-handed pitching lottery tickets for the system.
The transaction wire also shows Toronto added catcher Juan Caricote who signed for a $ 1.9 million signing bonus this morning.
Passing along a few international signings on Day 1 of the 2026 signing period, per #BlueJays:

RHPs Sahir De La Cruz, Fayon Dumorne & Abrahan Diaz
De La Cruz is listed at 6 foot 1 and 175 pounds, so you are betting on projection and room to add strength. Dumorne is already built at 5 foot 10 and 205, which hints at a different kind of profile.
Toronto just went 94 and 68 last season and scored 798 runs, so the big-league lineup clearly did its job. The next step is keeping the roster fed with cheap, controllable pitching so the payroll does not get boxed in later.
I like that the Blue Jays grabbed three right-handers right away, because volume is the point here. Diaz is listed at 180 pounds, and even without a clean scouting report in public, the body type tells you they are buying traits.

If you are a Jays fan, you have seen enough bullpen chaos to welcome any new arm with a pulse. The best part is these signings do not block anyone, they simply raise the odds that one kid pops.
Caricote being a left-handed hitting catcher is a smart touch, because catching depth gets thin fast in the low minors. Casanova is listed at 5 foot 9 and 167, and those smaller infielders often survive on hands, instincts, and quick decisions.
My opinion is this is the right lane for Ross Atkins to keep driving in, even while the trade market heats up. You win the AL East with stars, then you stay there by developing waves behind them.
This type of signings don't standout but are nonetheless important for the Blue Jays future.
