The Toronto Blue Jays are set to take on the Kansas City Royals this afternoon and announced a few roster moves before the game involving Leo Jimenez and Alejandro Kirk.
Blue Jays option Leo Jimenez to Triple-A
Prior to the Blue Jays game against the Royals, the team announced that infielder Leo Jimenez has been optioned to Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons while catcher Alejandro Kirk has been activated off the IL.
ROSTER MOVES:
🔹 C Alejandro Kirk reinstated from the 7-day IL and will be active today
🔹 INF Leo Jiménez optioned to Triple-A
Alejandro Kirk has been reinstated off the IL, Leo Jimenez has been optioned per blue Jays
This move does not come as much of a surprise as Jimenez has been struggling at the plate this season with the Blue Jays even though he has not seen much action.
So far this season, Jimenez has a .069 batting average along with 1 homerun and 1 RBI in a total of 18 games including 29 at bats with Toronto.
Hopefully this move also means that second baseman Andres Gimenez will soon be back from injury since Jimenez was often replacing him at second base when he did play.
Jimenez numbers in the minors have been very solid which prove that he is too good for Triple-A but his game is not at the MLB level yet.
