On this day back in 2023, the Toronto Blue Jays traded for centerfielder Daulton Varsho which is a move that they are still benefitting from.
The Blue Jays have made a lot of excellent moves under the leadership of GM Ross Atkins but not all those moves have worked out. One move that did not pan out for them is when they sent Matt Svanson to the St Louis Cardinals in exchange for Paul DeJong a few years ago..
Blue Jays the clear winners in trade with the Diamondbacks for Daulton Varsho
During the 2022 off-season, the Blue Jays sent Gabriel Moreno and Lourdes Gurriel Jr to the Diamondbacks in exchange for Varsho.
BREAKING: The Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a trade that will send outfielder Daulton Varsho to the Blue Jays for a package that includes top catching prospect Gabriel Moreno, sources tell ESPN.
While landing Varsho did not come at a cheap price as both Gurriel and Moreno are very solid players, they were able to acquire Varsho who is arguably the best defensive outfielder in baseball at the moment.
Not only has Varsho become a big part of the team's defense but he has turned into quite the leader as well as he is a big voice in the Blue Jays clubhouse which is known for being extremely close.
Both teams came out in good shape from this trade but based on how big on an impact Varsho has on this current Blue Jays team combined with his incredible defensive skill, the Blue Jays clearly won this trade.
Toronto will hopefully be able to pull off a similar trade this off-season since adding a top caliber player like Varsho who certainly make them favorites for the American League this upcoming year.
