The Toronto Blue Jays signed shortstop Rodolfo Castro this off-season and it looks like they might end up using him to replace Bo Bichette.

Despite the season being done for about 2 months now, the Blue Jays are still not any closer to signing Bichette as they have still yet to even make him an offer.

Blue Jays could to replace Bo Bichette with one of their own players

The Blue Jays signed Castro back in the first month of the off-season as they agreed to a minor league deal with him which includes a Spring Training invitation.
Castro has yet not played in the MLB since 2023 but that season he managed to start 92 games between the Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates as he finished with 6 home runs and 24 RBIs in 227 at bats.
The Blue Jays have some big expectations for Castro this upcoming season after a solid performance in the Dominican Winter League this year in which he had an impressive 26 RBIs.
"While Castro has often struggled in other areas outside of pure power, his performance in the DWL at least showed promise of becoming a more polished hitter. His 26 RBI also led all shortstops in the league, and he posted an OPS of .787, notably better than his career mark in the Dominican Winter League of .662. In the majors, Castro's career OPS stands at .672, but the Blue Jays clearly hope that at his still-young age, his development is not complete and he could be primed for a breakout season." -Jonathan Vankin

While having Castro fully take over for Bichette is very unlikely, if he has a great Spring Training and proves himself, he could end up being a solid bench player that turns into a starter if he continues to improve.
Ideally the Blue Jays will find a way to either replace Bichette with a free agent or through a trade but if they are unable to, at least they can have Castro fill in the gap while they search for another infielder.
Clearly signing Castro was a very smart move by Ross Atkins which comes at a very low risk with the deal they gave him.
