Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins surprising comments on why he traded for Andres Gimenez

The Toronto Blue Jays Gm Ross Atkins was on the MLB network yesterday and spoke of the decision to trade for Andres Gimenez.
The Blue Jays closed a deal two days ago with the Cleveland Guardians for second baseman Andres Gimenez and Nick Sandlin two days ago in exchange for Spencer Horwitz and Nick Mitchell.

Atkins was on the MLB network yesterday and spoke of the massive trade the Blue Jays made for Andres Gimenez and also gave some insight as to why Atkins decided to go after him in the first place.
The Blue Jays obviously loved Gimenez' defensive ability as he is a three time Gold Glove winner but Atkins also stated that they believe he is great offensively which is a bit of a shock.
"Andrés [Giménez] has been one of the better players in the game... we're excited about all sides of the ball with him."

Gimenez is clearly not known for his offensive ability while he is not a bad player, it was surprising to hear Atkins focus so much on his offensive abilities and praise them during the interview.
The good news is that Atkins did state that Gimenez is very excited to play for the Blue Jays for the next few years as he is under contract until 2029.
The Blue Jays new second baseman did put up solid numbers at the plate in 2022 with 17 homeruns and 69 RBIs which fans are hoping he will be able to reach that level once again next season in Toronto.
If Gimenez reaches his full potential, this move could make Atkins look like a genius.
