The Toronto Blue Jays recently announced an unfortunate update regarding outfielder Joey Loperfido as he has been struggling to find his game since being sent down to the Buffalo Bisons.
Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido is struggling in Triple-A
Since returning to the minors,
Loperfido has been trying out first base which seems to not be coming naturally to him but the real issue has been his hitting.
Since August 16th, Loperfido has a .132 batting average in the minors with 5 hits in 32 at bats with a .233 on base percentage as well.
Joey Loperfido: 5-32 (.132 avg) in Buffalo but was learning a new position, mixing in time at 1B while down there. I'm not sure 1B is a viable option at big league level just yet... and worth pointing out: his last play at 1B on Friday (1st clip below).... (cont'd)
Also something else someone mentioned it is a small sample but
Joey Loperfido since being demoted in 43 PAs is slashing
.132/.233/.158
These numbers are quite shocking since Loperfido has been very good in the majors for the Blue Jays this season with 3 homeruns, 10 RBIs, a .358 batting average and .409 on base percentage in 81 at bats.
The only reason he got sent down in the first place was to make room on the roster and not due to how he was playing.
Loperfido should be able to snap out of this slump but it will certainly hurt his chances of being called up in the final stretch of the season if he continues to play this way in the minors.
